Terms & Conditions
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Welcome to Murmurritos. These Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Chimoxos (“Murmurritos,” “we,” or “us”) and govern your use of the Murmurritos website and everything on it (the “Service”). By using the Service or submitting a message, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who may use Murmurritos
You must be at least 18 years old to submit a message. Murmurritos is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to submit content. If you are under 18, you may not submit a message.
2. What Murmurritos is (and is not)
Murmurritos is an anonymous space for sharing unsent letters. Messages you submit are displayed publicly on the Service. Murmurritos is a creative and emotional-expression project. It is not therapy, counseling, medical advice, or a crisis service, and no one reads submissions in order to respond to them.
3. Your submissions
- You wrote it. You confirm that every message you submit was written by you and that you have the right to submit it.
- You keep ownership. You keep ownership of your message. By submitting it, you give Murmurritos a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to host, store, reproduce, format, display, and distribute your message in connection with operating and promoting the Service (for example, showing it in the archive or as an excerpt on the home page or in promotional material). Messages are always shown anonymously, using only the optional names or pseudonyms you choose to enter.
- Public and generally permanent. Because submissions are anonymous, we cannot verify who wrote a given message, so messages cannot be edited or deleted by their authors after posting. You can ask us to review a message for removal (see Section 12). Please do not submit anything you would not want to be public.
- Optional details. Names, pseudonyms, initials, relationship, color, and feeling are optional creative details. Do not use real full names or other identifying details of other people.
4. Rules for submissions
You agree not to submit content that:
- names, identifies, or can reasonably be used to locate a private person (including full names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles, workplaces, or schools);
- harasses, threatens, bullies, or encourages violence against any person or group, or contains hate speech;
- sexualizes minors or depicts child sexual abuse in any way (we have zero tolerance and will report it to the authorities);
- encourages or provides instructions for suicide, self-harm, or illegal activity;
- is unlawful, defamatory, or violates anyone’s privacy or intellectual property rights;
- is written by someone else, is spam, advertising, or contains links or malicious code; or
- impersonates another person or misrepresents who you are.
You also agree not to scrape, copy at scale, or republish the archive, or to interfere with or attempt to disrupt the Service.
5. Moderation
We are not required to monitor submissions, but we may review, refuse, edit for privacy, or remove any submission at any time and for any reason, including if it violates these Terms. We may report unlawful content to law enforcement. We may restrict access to the Service for anyone who violates these Terms.
6. Our content
The Murmurritos name, logo, design, postcard templates, artwork, and code are owned by Murmurritos or its licensors and are protected by law. You may view and share links to the Service for personal, non-commercial use, but you may not copy, modify, or commercially exploit our content without written permission.
7. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at murmurritos@gmail.com. Please include: your contact information; a description of the work you claim is infringed; the location of the allegedly infringing material on the Service; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
8. Disclaimers
The Service and all submissions are provided “as is” and “as available.” Submissions are written by anonymous users and do not represent our views. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and we do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of any submission. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Murmurritos and its owners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the Service or from content submitted by others. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to $100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
10. Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold harmless Murmurritos and its owners from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from content you submit or from your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
11. Privacy
- What we collect. The content you choose to submit (message, optional names or pseudonyms, relationship, color, feeling, and the date of submission). Our hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Wix) may automatically process technical information like IP address, browser type, and device information to deliver and secure the Service.
- Translation. Letters are never translated unless you choose to. If you click “Translate” on a letter, the text of that one letter is sent to a translation service (Google Translate) so it can be translated for you. Please see Google’s privacy policy for how Google handles that text.
- No accounts. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your real name or email address to submit a message.
- How we use it. To display submissions on the Service, operate and secure the Service, moderate content, and comply with law.
- We do not sell or share your personal information for money or for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect safety and rights.
- Do Not Track. The Service does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
- Your California privacy rights. If you are a California resident, you may have the right under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) to request to know, delete, or correct personal information we hold about you, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Because submissions are anonymous, we may not be able to link a message to you; to make a request, contact us at the email below and include the text of the message and enough detail for us to find it.
12. Contact and removal requests
To report a problem, request that a submission be reviewed for removal, or ask a question about these Terms, contact us at murmurritos@gmail.com.
13. California consumer notice
Under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, California users of the Service are entitled to the following notice: the provider of the Service is Chimoxos. If you have a question or complaint regarding the Service, please contact us at murmurritos@gmail.com. California residents may reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834, or by telephone at (916) 445-1254 or (800) 952-5210.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
15. Changes and termination
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms. We may suspend or end the Service, or your access to it, at any time.
16. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Murmurritos about the Service.
Accessibility Statement
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Murmurritos wants everyone to be able to read and share unsent letters, including people with disabilities. We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard commonly used to measure accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
What we have done
- The whole site can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Pages use headings, landmarks and labeled form fields so screen readers can navigate them, and there is a “Skip to main content” link.
- Letters open in a pop-up that traps keyboard focus, closes with the Escape key, and returns you to where you were.
- The rotating letters on the home page can be paused, and they do not rotate automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Text and controls are designed for strong color contrast, and color is never the only way information is shown (every color and feeling has a text name).
- The site works on phones and tablets and can be zoomed in.
- Any letter can be translated on request with the Translate button under the letter. Nothing is translated automatically, and translations are machine-made, so they can contain mistakes.
Known limits
- Letters are written by the public. Their text appears on top of decorative postcard images; the full text of each letter is always available as plain text when you open it.
- Machine translation is not perfect and may not read well in every language.
